December 1st at the National Council of Social Studies (NCSS) House of Delegates (HOD) meeting was the setting and CPS came to the rescue. The HOD had prepared to use CPS for their resolution voting in an effort to avoid counting them by hand, speed up the voting process, and allow for accurate documentation of all votes that took place. This year’s ballot consisted of 17 resolutions to be discussed and voted on, along with a couple of other issues that needed a stamp of approval.Everything was going smoothly until the final resolution came up. This resolution had already been tabled the prior year and sparked a very heated and “interesting” discussion. When the resolution was presented this year, there was an immediate move to table. This vote passed by a very slim margin. This sparked some interesting discussion for several minutes and eventually an amendment was passed (using CPS via the verbal option) and then brought before the HOD to untable (again using the CPS verbal option). This too passed and a vote on the resolution was at hand. The HOD was able to pass the resolution from start to finish in a matter of 15-20 minutes, by the slimmest of margins. In past years, the vote had been so close that there were recounts demanded several times as a show of hands did not lead to reliable numbers in a room of nearly 200. Using CPS, the data spoke for itself and we could obtain definitive data in a matter of 10-12 seconds as opposed to the 30-45 minutes it had taken in past years. Not only was this a great example of CPS in one of its finest moments but also a wonderful example of how a democracy works. Great job CPS!
Quote of the Month... "Instruction begins when you, the teacher, learn from the learner. Put yourself in his place so that you may understand what he learns and the way he understands it." --Kierkegard ![]() eInstruction realizes that without customers who see the value of our products, teachers and learners all over the country would not be reaping such great rewards. To thank their loyal customers, eInstruction offers the Core Customer Loyalty Program that will pass on considerable savings to your school district. This valuable program encourages district-wide implementation of eInstruction’s Classroom Performance System products and services by implementing a plan to get CPS in the hands of teachers at a discount. The Core Customer Loyalty Program allows districts to create a plan for the number of units to be purchased throughout the year, and eInstruction commits to an upfront bulk rate purchase price which is based on the quantities to be ordered over a year's time. This allows all schools within the district to get a lower cost per unit based on a district-wide bulk price, giving schools the freedom to place individual orders but still benefit from the bulk purchasing price. The Core Customer Loyalty Program also applies to bulk CPS Chalkboard purchases. This is a cost-effective way to implement CPS or CPS Chalkboards in your district for benchmark testing and district-wide implementation. We'd like to welcome these Nebraska districts to the Core Customer Loyalty Program...
December/January Classroom Activities We've gathered a few fun classroom activities such as quizzes and games that you might be able to tweak and utilize with your CPS system or CPS chalkboard. Don’t be hesitant to use these quizzes in your classroom. Quizzes and some of these fun activities are a great way to introduce a new topic. Some of these activities, like holiday trivia, will also provide a no-pressure “brain break” for students that have been working hard. Don’t forget that printables like word searches and sudoku can be used on the CPS Chalkboard and make a great quick all-class activity. Some of these activities could also be done on paper, but they are so much more fun to do using CPS and/or the CPS chalkboard! From the Desk of...Dustin Frank
With the holiday season upon us, it is always nice to reflect back on the year that has been. Thanks to all of you that I’ve had the opportunity to work with this past year. The transition to a new area has been a smooth one and I appreciate all your support and willingness to work with me on travel, scheduling, and all the arrangements that have gone into the training across our region. We are looking forward to the new year and the challenges it may bring both in the classroom and out. We are currently scheduling training visits into February and still have dates available, so call now. Have a wonderful holiday season and I look forward to seeing you in 2008!
Sincerely,
