My CPS Chalkboard Won't Light Up!

by Elizabeth

I am using a CPS chalkboard and the little wireless box won't light up or do anything. Can anyone help me?

Thanks for your question, Elizabeth. There are several things for you to check if your receiver unit (the "little wireless box") is not lighting up. You didn't mention whether you are an experienced CPS Chalkboard user or not, so I'll start at the beginning with the initial setup.

Note: This is not an inclusive troubleshooting list, but these are the first things to check if your receiver unit is not lighting up.

Check #1 Check to make sure the receiver is set up right. I know this may sound silly, but you wouldn't believe how many times the receiver is plugged into the chalkboard instead of into the computer!

The receiver unit should be plugged into one of the USB ports in your computer.

The receiver will sit nicely on your desk, largely unnoticed. Note: The chalkboard itself should not have anything plugged into it.

If it's still not working, check #2. Refer to the tri-fold setup guide that you received with your chalkboard. Number one walks you through connecting the CPS Chalkboard battery.

    To remove the battery:
  • Remove the battery cover on the back of the CPS Chalkboard. Remove the battery.

  • Connect the battery by plugging in the white battery connector to the battery connection in the CPS Chalkboard. Ensure that the battery is plugged in!

  • Place the battery back into the CPS Chalkboard. Place the battery cover back onto the CPS Chalkboard.

If it's still not working, check #3. Unplug the receiver unit from the USB port and try a different USB port on your computer.

If it's still not working... Well, I'd say it is time to call in reinforcements. First, speak to someone from your school's tech office and see if they can help you figure out something you may have overlooked.

If that is unsuccessful, please call eInstruction tech support or contact them via online chat. You can find that contact information here.

Good luck on this, Elizabeth. Please let us know if you get your problem resolved.

Removing the battery from the Chalkboard unit
by: Anonymous

I had to call the Chalkboard Tech Support line twice to get info on how to remove the battery. First the battery is very tight in that little space and difficult to remove. It requires more pull than I thought it would. I was told by the company rep that I could pull on the wires connected to the connection and it should not cause any wires to come out. I did get the battery out, but as I said, it requires a LOT of pull.

Another option

many times you can plug the board directly into the computer via USB. this by passes the wireless receiver but for some reason inititializes the connection. Once this is established and working, you can then go back to wireless and many times the board will now run wirelessly.

Battery life on Einstruction chalkboard
by: Beth

The 20 hour life only last maybe 15 minutes on my unit. I am guessing I need a new battery. Where can these be found?

New Battery for your eInstruction Chalkboard
by: Cathy at Engaging Technologies

Beth - I just want to clarify. Do you have the eInstruction Chalkboard, an Interwrite Pad, or an Interwrite Mobi? If your product is still under warranty (however, if it is an eInstruction Chalkboard, it is probably not), you can call eInstruction Tech Support at 888-333-4988 to get a new battery.

If you have an eInstruction Chalkboard, you can still purchase a replacement battery for $15. If you are not in Kansas or Nebraska, please contact us by telephone or through our Contact Us link, and we can get you in touch with your eInstruction representative for your area to get you set up with a new battery.
